WJWS-LP is “93.7 The Scratch” – Jasper High School’s student run radio station!

Broadcasting 24/7 from the campus of Jasper High School, with a live shows before school, during lunch, and right after school.

Playing the best in Alternative, Independent, Classic Rock, and other popular music picked by radio/tv students at Jasper High School.

Before getting our LPFM license, we were a FCC Part 15 compliant station with a mission of providing information, entertainment, and a great mix of student picked music.

Mission Statement:

Our mission at Jasper High School, and more specifically, the radio/tv department, is to provide students with a real world educational experience of different mediums.  This includes, but is not limited to radio, television, and online media.  We strive to give students a creative outlet while also practicing real world media techniques they can use outside the school.  Overall, we also want to provide students, their parents, alumni, and community members with news and information about what is going on at JHS.  This includes coverage of sports, clubs, student events, and any other news or activities that matter to the students, faculty, and parents of Jasper High School.

Programming statement:

Our programming for ‘The Scratch’ LPFM radio station will be almost all student ran.  The majority of the music will be selected and played by the students in the advanced radio/tv course.  It will be a somewhat eclectic mix because of the wide variety of tastes in each student.  With that said, we will try to focus on an alternative and independent rock type of format since it is not currently offered in the Jasper area.

Students will have rotating shifts where they broadcast during school ‘prime hours’.  Examples are; during the morning before school, at lunch, and after school is released.  This is not only entertaining for students driving to school, but also for parents and faculty looking for daily information.  Students in the introductory radio/tv course will also produce different recorded segments, ranging from public service announcements, to educational pieces about their favorite artists.
